Thanksgiving is officially next week… how the heck did that happen? Not that I’m complaining; I’ve told you here already that it’s my favorite. But I’m still amazed that it’s almost here! I suppose it’s about time for me to figure out my menu and make my game plan. Ya, I have a game plan for Thanksgiving. Makes things way less stressful, and therefore much more enjoyable, on the day of. And do you know what’s going to go on my Thanksgiving menu this year? If you guessed pumpkin pie you’re 100% correct, but I was thinking of this Sweet Potato Casserole with Candied Pecans and Marshmallow Cream. Continue reading
I know I said this last week, but I LOVE Thanksgiving. And part of what I love about being a food blogger is that it gives me an excuse to make all sorts of holiday recipes all month to test for you guys. It’s pretty great. It’s a good thing I already nailed my pumpkin pie recipe last year. The last thing I need is a bunch of pies lying around the house. That’s just asking for trouble. Delicious trouble, but trouble nonetheless. Although I could always make apple pie…. What do you think? Do I need to post a recipe for apple pie so we can all have some apple pie with our pumpkin pie this Thanksgiving? Continue reading
Now that it’s November (the 6th to be exact….how the heck did that happen?) I’ve been thinking a lot about Thanksgiving. I frickin’ love Thanksgiving. Besides Christmas it’s my favorite Holiday. I know, super original right?!? This may be super crazy (my husband has already told me so) but I often find myself wishing that we celebrated Thanksgiving in October like in Canada instead of November. Now hear me out… Let’s say you start decorating for fall in September like I do and you keep your fall decorations up until after Thanksgiving is over, you know since you can’t let Christmas totally trump Thanksgiving, and then you put your Christmas decorations up. That means that you get basically three full months of fall decor and only one of Christmas. But if Thanksgiving was in October like in Canada, you would have two months of fall decor and two months of Christmas decor. Way better, right?!?! I think so anyway. Don’t judge me. Continue reading
Last year I deemed October the month of Pumpkin All the Things! I made a bunch of different recipes, sweet and savory, and indulged in all the pumpkin goodness all month long. It was glorious! The problem was, I think I wore myself out on pumpkin. It’s now the end of October, and beyond adding a little pumpkin pie spice to a few protein shakes I have had zero pumpkiny foods this fall. Seriously, none! It’s not that a little pumpkin bread or a pumpkin spice latte doesn’t sound appetizing. It’s just that it doesn’t appeal to me enough to go through the effort of making it. Which, let’s be honest, is probably a good thing.
I’m not counting on that lasting too long though. I’m sure I’ll be craving all things pumpkin here sooner or later. And you can bet your ass I’ll be making my favorite paleo and AIP friendly pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving! It’s suuuuuper good. Dang, now I want pumpkin pie. Maybe I’ll have to go make one of these pumpkin recipes after all to tide me over. It is Halloween after all.
So in honor of Halloween (and the fact that it’s finally cooling off here in Central Texas), here is a pumpkin recipe roundup with all my favorite real food (gluten free, grain free, dairy free) pumpkin recipes….
