Last year I deemed October the month of Pumpkin All the Things! I made a bunch of different recipes, sweet and savory, and indulged in all the pumpkin goodness all month long. It was glorious! The problem was, I think I wore myself out on pumpkin. It’s now the end of October, and beyond adding a little pumpkin pie spice to a few protein shakes I have had zero pumpkiny foods this fall. Seriously, none! It’s not that a little pumpkin bread or a pumpkin spice latte doesn’t sound appetizing. It’s just that it doesn’t appeal to me enough to go through the effort of making it. Which, let’s be honest, is probably a good thing.
I’m not counting on that lasting too long though. I’m sure I’ll be craving all things pumpkin here sooner or later. And you can bet your ass I’ll be making my favorite paleo and AIP friendly pumpkin pie for Thanksgiving! It’s suuuuuper good. Dang, now I want pumpkin pie. Maybe I’ll have to go make one of these pumpkin recipes after all to tide me over. It is Halloween after all.
So in honor of Halloween (and the fact that it’s finally cooling off here in Central Texas), here is a pumpkin recipe roundup with all my favorite real food (gluten free, grain free, dairy free) pumpkin recipes….
I feel like I’ve been a little MIA recently. Probably because I’ve spent the last few weeks with my brain fully engrossed in the land of Rosewood, PA where everyone is beautiful and a liar and you have to watch your back constantly, AKA watching far too much Pretty Little Liars. The good news is I’m all caught up now and OMG we are FINALLY going to find out who “A” is on Tuesday! I’m freaking out guys! I’m not even going to try to speculate at who “A” is because, knowing this show, I’ll be totally wrong. And I swear this better actually be the real deal “A” reveal and not another “it’s A except really they’re just working for A or they’re just another psycho with no relation to A” type of thing. Because I’m tired of that. Got that, Marlene King?!?!
Some of my favorite memories from my childhood are of making pumpkin pie with my mama for Thanksgiving. Every year the Tuesday before Thanksgiving we would make two pumpkin pies, you know because you have to have lots of leftovers. And we always made it from scratch, including the crust. Well except for the pumpkin puree. We would used canned pumpkin, but I still say that’s pretty darn close to from scratch! In fact I had never even tried the roll out Pillsbury crust until I was at least 17 or 18. (I don’t feel like I missed out at all on that one).
In case you weren’t aware… I deemed October the month of Pumpkin All the Things! All month I’ve been posting recipes that include my beloved pumpkin. But obviously I’m not the only one out there with some delicious pumpkin recipes.
