Upgraded Oil Cleansing Method: taking my skincare regimen to the next level
So I think I’ve mentioned this before, but I don’t exactly have the best skin. Looking at me you’d think I was a hormonal teenager and not the (apparently) hormonal 24 year old that I am. I’m hoping this will pay off later in the form of nice youthful skin as a 40 year old, but knowing my luck that won’t be the case.
All Natural Food for your Skin: A Review of Primally Pure
For most people (myself included), the first step when transitioning to a healthy lifestyle involves switching out the processed, crap “food” for real, whole, nutrient dense foods. I believe an important next step however, is to switch out the processed, crap “beauty” products for products made with real, whole, all natural ingredients.
How to make your own Homemade Tooth Powder and whiten your teeth the natural way
It’s been far too long since I did a Beyond Food Friday post and I figured it was about time. So on this rendition of Beyond Food Fridays we are talking about how to make some homemade tooth powder. Surprise, surprise… the girl that washes her hair with apple cider vinegar and baking soda, rubs beef fat on her face, and cleanses her face with oil does not use conventional toothpaste. You know me, I just don’t trust something that I couldn’t make in my own kitchen. I don’t know about you, but I don’t have any sodium lauryl sulfate or titanium dioxide lying around.
I’m not going to go into all the reasons that regular ol’ toothpaste should be avoided because I don’t want to be a Debbie downer. Instead, I figured I’d tell you about all the wonderful ingredients in this Homemade Tooth Powder….
Betonite Clay: Not only is bentonite clay full of minerals that help support strong, healthy teeth, but it also carries an electric charge when hydrated. This means it can draw out and bind to heavy metals and other impurities in the teeth.
Baking Soda: Baking soda alkalinizes the mouth and helps to whiten teeth.
Cinnamon and Cloves: Both cinnamon and cloves have antimicrobial properties which helps to kill the bad bacteria in your mouth. And they taste great!
Orange essential oil: Orange essential oil is uplifting and adds a delicious flavor that compliments the cinnamon and cloves.
Xylitol: Xylitol is associated with decreased dental caries and increased tooth remineralization (source). Plus it adds a little sweetness which makes the toothpowder a little more appealing. It tastes great with or without it though.
There are plenty of awesome tooth powder products out there if you want to purchase your own. Like this one from Primal Life Organics or this one from The Dirt. However it’s MUCH cheaper to make your own and it’s super easy. Just throw it all in a jar and shake to combine.
- 1 Tbs bentonite clay
- 2 tsp baking soda
- 2 tsp ground cinnamon
- ¼ tsp cloves
- 8 drops orange essential oil
- 1/2 tsp xylitol powder (optional)
- Combine all ingredients in a small jar and stir or shake to combine.
- To use: wet toothbrush and dip into powder. Brush as normal.
To read more about tooth powder see here. And to learn more about remineralizing teeth see here. This should last you about two to three months. Do you have an unconventional teeth cleansing routine? I’d love to hear about it!
In vibrant health,
