If you haven’t noticed, there are tons of paleo cookbooks out there. It feels like there is a new one coming out every week sometimes. And while I’m sure all these books are fantastic, if you ask me, Make it Paleo 2 by Bill and Hayley of Primal Palate and Hayley’s sister Caitlin is special. Make it Paleo 2 is not only a delicious and versatile cookbook, but a beautiful work of art that everyone interested in real food should have in their arsenal!
Make it Paleo 2 has over 175 recipes, many of which are dairy free, nut free, nightshade free, and/or egg free, making it a great resource for those with dietary restrictions beyond those of your typical paleo diet. There is even a handy dandy table in the back of the book that will tell you whether or not an allergen is present in that recipe. For someone who avoids nuts most of the time and severely limits nightshade consumption, I appreciate that there are still so many recipes I could make in this book.
Bill, Hayley and Caitlin did a fantastic job of creating a resource appropriate for everyone, from the most seasoned cook to someone who can barely boil water. The recipes are easy to follow and use relatively simple and easy to find ingredients. I’ve had no problem making several of these recipes for weeknight dinners after a long day at work! However, there is a whole chapter devoted to “food projects” for those foodies out there who enjoy learning new things and spending some time in the kitchen. I can’t wait to brew my own ginger beer and cure my own bacon!
And of course you can’t forget the photography!!!! With all the beautiful photos, each turn of the page had me drooling more and more. I don’t know how they do it, but their photos are so vibrant and colorful and beautiful lit. I seriously want to reach through the page and grab the food! (Oh, if only that were possible). As an aspiring food photographer, I can really appreciate the time and skill that went into each and every gorgeous photograph.
Everything I’ve made from this book so far has been absolutely delicious. But nothing has been quite as amazing as the Dark Chocolate Olive Oil and Sea Salt Ice Cream, especially with some Kasandrinos olive oil. Holy crap guys! I’m not typically a big chocolate ice cream fan, but this recipe had me licking the bowl of my ice cream maker. (Side note: don’t do that. It’s cold.) It’s seriously the best chocolate ice cream I’ve ever had. Even if the only recipe you ever made from this book was this ice cream, it would be worth the purchase. Seriously!
Anyway, long story short, if you haven’t already you should buy this book! Unfortunately, Bill and Haley had to cancel their book tour which Haley so bravely wrote about in this post, but that doesn’t mean we can’t support them and their beautiful work! You can get the book here!
In vibrant health,
